Chantilly Youth Rec Soccer

Anonymous
New to the area and just signed my kids up for rec soccer through Chantilly Youth Association. I noted that we are new to their schools and are hoping to be grouped with kids from that same school. What are the chances of this happening for ES-aged kids? Are the rec teams already pretty established? Do coaches have a choice if they'll take on new kids or will all the new kids be lumped into a completely different team? A little nervous about this for my kids. They've both already been locked out of scouts at their new school with troops that won't take new kids

I’m not sure about Chantilly, but Vienna groups their younger house teams by elementary school. It is possible that the team for your elementary is full, but hopefully you’ll get on it. I would email the league and ask.

What school? Some are more CYA-heavy than others. You should email the age group volunteer and ask.

Our rec league would not put all the new players on one team.

We have one of more kid playing CYA soccer for several years. In our experience, there has never been a team that only has kids from one elementary school. There will often be more from a particular school on the team, but always at least two different schools represented. Sometimes there’s a group of kids and a parent coach who tend to stay together for multiple seasons. You can request to be placed with specific kids/a specific coach when you register. But even in those cases where there’s a core group, the team makeup changes a bit from season to season. Some do soccer in the fall and lacrosse or another sport in spring, for example. Neither of my kids have ever been the only one from their school on a team even if we didn’t make any specific requests. They will always try to have at l’états a few kids from the same school.

OP here, thank you, this is super helpful. I did write in the comments section that we were new to the community and would love for our kids to be placed on team with other children from their school, so hopefully that ends up being the case.
