Adenoid removal

Anonymous
I feel like I know 10 kids who removed had their adenoids removed this year. Some have had recurrent ear infections, but some got them removed because they are mouth breathers and snore, and the ENT said the adenoids were enlarged and recommended removing.

My 4 year old is a loud snorer but hardly gets sick. He's almost five and still naps which makes me wonder if he's well rested and getting a good night's sleep, so I asked the pediatrician if his adenoids should be looked at and she said no, unless he's getting sick a lot not to worry. Then I heard that kids shouldn't snore, ever. I feel apprehensive to go to an ENT because they will just suggest removal. Do you have any insight?

just go to the ENT and hear them out

It’s a super easy surgery so I don’t see a reason not to get it checked out. I had horrible ear issues my whole life and got mine out at 25 and had so much relief.

They do need general anesthesia for adenoid removal so that’s something to discuss with the ENT. You may want to do a sleep study to see if your DS has apnea.

I went to an ent and my kid did get his adenoids out eventually but I liked that we tried other things for almost a year first and the guy didn’t rush to surgery.

My pediatrician referred us to the ent originally though.
