Tween boy outings

Anonymous
Home with my ds this summer and having trouble filling days. He has two camps one in July and one in August. Most of his friends are in camp all summer so it’s just ds and his mom. Any suggestions?

Fwiw, DS did a massive overhaul of his bedroom. Started out super slow and I really had to initiate and helped a lot, but I made it fun (music, light hearted conversations, ordered Chinese for lunch etc). Old school papers, clothes junk, etc threw out and cleaned up. Did some light shopping together for shelves and small cabinets and shelves.
Bought some posters and dry erase board too.
Took about 2 weeks. Gave him sonething to do each day, sense of accomplishment, vested interest, etc.

This. My tween needs at least a couple hours of camp or he’s bored. Most of the pools have tennis/swim camp. Even just 1/2 day makes a difference. You’ll still have plenty of time to do stuff w him.

Axe throwing - my tween loved it, and was pretty good at it!
Kayaking (but need to do it early or late so that it is not too hot).

Ropes course at Sandy Spring or Savage Mill.
Day trip to Greenbrier Lake or Sandy Point

Greenbrier is fun, try to go on a week day so it's less crowded. Cunningham Falls in Frederick County is good too.

I also agree with trying to find additional camps. If your work schedule allows it, my kids at that age enjoyed their 9am to 12pm sports camps. Half a day of structure, the other half of chilling and relaxing.

I just signed my bored and lonely tween up for more camps. More seem to have availability this year than previous years.

These are all great ideas.

But also remembers: its ok to be bored. He doesn't need a cruise director every day.

Let him go bike around the neighborhood or get lost in the woods.
