My kids have been asking to go. We are an Indian family and I see this place is in Cecil County, MD and very close to Rising Sun, MD which is known to be very heavily populated with white supremacists and KKK members. What are the chances of my kids being discriminated against in this area of town? |
I've never been but I do know that Cecil County allows for KKK meeting in their public buildings. |
Well this puts a new spin on my DC's and my planned overnight in early August. I didn't know this about the area.
We're white, and I know that means we will experience this outing differently than you and your family and of course have a different lens. That said, I'd be happy to report back after we go if you'd like. We did go to the one in Williamsburg during the pandemic. Sometimes I feel a little uncomfortable in southern/very pro-2A areas as a single woman with a child, but I felt pretty comfortable on campus. There were families from diverse backgrounds there, but still probably 50-60% white. |
When you're at GWF, you don't leave. You spend 48 hours there and eat the crappy buffet and the lousy pizza and let the kids run around to their hearts content.
The only part of the area you'll see is the highway |
This is really really silly. You will not have an issue. |
I went and we had a nice time (or as nice a time I am going to have in an indoor water park lol). The crowd itself is very diverse as are the employees and I didn't see any weird/racist behavior. As for the surrounding area in our experience you park the car, enter, and don't leave the bubble until checkout. |
Agree with the experience. You really don’t leave.
I’m Indian American as well and went for 2 nights. It’s a very very diverse crowd. Everything from a man with “White Pride” tattooed on his back to a woman in a Burkini. I will say I have never seen so many neck tattooes in one place before. Make of that what you will. |
OP here. Did "White Pride" bother anyone that was not white? I come from a very liberal west coast area and moving to the east coast was a bit of a culture shock to me. I'm surprised the pledge is still repeated at schools here. |
I was a little uncomfortable at first seeing the tattoo. I actually almost said something to the guy. But then I realized I was there to have fun with my kid and I let it go. |
Silly?? Come on now. |
Op here. Thank you. This was very helpful. |
OP here. Please let me know how it goes. We're planning for mid august before schools start back up. Thank you. |
What a tone-deaf response. Literally and figuratively. |
Keep in mind MD is a very red state except MoCo, PG, Baltimore, and Howard counties. Other 20 or so counties are very very red. |
To those who have already visited GWL. Thinking of booking an overnight in July, how crowded is the park on a Saturday? |
