Emirates EK232 delayed by 10 hours July 10th 2023

I was just informed that my Emirates EK232 delayed by 10 hours July 10th 2023

Flight is IAD - DXB (Dubai)

Obviously I will be missing my connecting flight.

This is first time I encountered this kind of delay, wondering any suggestion on how to handle that?

Any way to connect with some fellow passengers so that we can share the information and figure out together?

Your input is appreciated!

Thanks!

Figure out another flight from PHL or EWR or JFK that will get you to your connection and call Emirates and ask them to put you on that, and then take Amtrak up there.

What is your final destination?

There's an 11 AM Emirates flight out of JFK. That's your best bet. Call them and have them put you on that. Get a flight first thing to JFK to get there.

This assumes you need to get to DXB first thing Tuesday morning

Take the BOS-DXB flight. It's not as popular as from NYC. They may even pay your flight to BOS. If not, it's cheap as it's the shuttle flight from DCA, goes once an hour.

They are partners with United, may put you on domestic United flight IAD-BOS or IAD-LGA (they don't flight to JFK).

Just call Emirates. They will likely re-route you to a hub that has a departing flight to your final destination. They can see more than you can in terms of availability and schedule, so your best bet is to call them, not try to sort it yourself. The email or message informing you of delay should have a number to call.

(This assumes you're booked through Emirates to your final destination. If you were trying to connect to a separate booking, you may be screwed.)

The BOS flight leaves at 11 PM. OP needs a flight departing before noon to match schedule of IAD-DXB flight. Only JFK departure would work.

You don’t need to connect w/ other passengers - that’s almost creepy. Just all Emirates and request a connecting flight

Yeah I’m even a midwesterner and agree that’s…really weird.

Thank you so much for all your input!

I'm the OP. I called Emirates, they said that I should call my booking agent, XieCheng (Ctrip.com).

I'm on phone with CTrip.com now.
Will update you guys.

Trip advisor is good for this.

This is the platonic ideal example of why you should always book directly with the operating airline whenever possible. Good luck OP, you might be at this all night bouncing back and forth between the OTA (online travel agency) and Emirates.

I am not sure the agent was right, by the way. You are within 24 hours of departure, at this point it's Emirates" obligation to get your to your destination. They "own" the itinerary now

We need an update from the OP. I'm especially concerned (aka overly invested) since the ticket wasn't booked directly with the airline.

This is OP, update:
I booked via Trip.com, so Trip.com able to move my departure one day later as they don't see any other option. Now I leave on 7/11 instead of 7/10.

New problem: 7/11 departure flight again will be delayed, by 4 hours. So I will be missing the connecting flight again.

Now trying to work with trip.com to back on 7/10 departure flight, in order to make 7/12 connecting flight at Dubai.

Crazy, wish me luck! Thank you guys so much!

Sounds like a cluster OP. Good luck.
