Exams for certification in VA if diploma is OOS?

Anonymous
I will be getting my education degree next year from a school in the North East but plan on coming back to live in VA, which is home.
Can I take the VA tests for certification or do I have to take the tests in the state I went to school and then ask for reciprocity? Wondering if anyone who's BTDT can give me advice. Thank you.

Call VDOE. Or go to their website. That is the best way to get accurate information about certification requirements, which go beyond the Praxis.

If you're talking about the Praxis (I or II), it is the same exam administered in all the states but each state has its own score requirements. In general, Virginia score requirements are higher. The score information for each state is on the Praxis website.

Definitely call VDOE. but if you’re not planning on working in the state where you are in school, the easier answer is to do the tests and get licensed in VA to begin with. To get reciprocity means going through the bureaucracy in the initial licensure state and then do the bureaucracy of getting licensed in VA, and both processes take time.

BTDT. Taught in NC for a year before coming back to the DMV. I got a provisional license, (to get reciprocity, you need to have certain # of years experience) and then took all of the VA tests.
