APS Summer Tutors

Anonymous
Anyone have a recommendation for a summer tutor for first grade? I know, I know, it seems crazy. She just really needs the extra support, and we were using someone during the school year, but they moved. I reached out to a couple people already and two of them were booked and one said they do not do tutoring until at least third grade. And, I'm still advocating for our daughter to be held back because it feels like that would be the best solution but apparently her school has two students who are already being held back for K and I was told "off the record" more than two is not a good luck for numbers.

Saw this posted posted on AEM, maybe OP should look at it and all the comments on that FB post. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CuUWmwAA9ZZ/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Saw that post on AEM, and I have some thoughts:

Teaching a child skills (language, math, etc) is IMPORTANT. But yes, making them sit still for six+ hours is cruel. Perhaps if we hadn’t used such TERRIBLE teaching methods, children wouldn’t have such difficulty reading, test scores wouldn’t be abysmal, and they’d actually allow time for recess and imaginative play.

The answer isn’t “stop tutoring (teaching) your kids.” The answer is teaching them using effective and efficient strategies, allowing them time for other things.

(And maybe separating kids by ability comes into play also.)

OP, are there specific areas you want to work on? Reading?
