| I'm 46. I like my face. I think my mom is beautiful at 71 and she's never done any cosmetic stuff to her face. But so many of my friends do it and rave about it. Am I too late anyway at 46? What are the risks? One friend told me she quit because of brain fog. I really care about looking my best - I get my hair highlighted regularly, I get mani/pedis, lash extensions, spray tans, teeth whitening, I go to a gym. But I've never done Botox or anything really to my face. I've always stayed out of the sun and have worn SPF every day since my 20s - I won't buy foundation if it doesn't have SPF in it. I use La Mer at night and I always feel smooth in the morning. But, like everyone else, my face shows some signs of aging (some 11s, some mild crow's feet) and I wonder if I'm missing the boat by not trying Botox. What's your advice for me? |
| Depends OP! I’m 40 and thinking of Botox for my forehead. But I hate that Botox expressionless look. I talked to my Derm about it and said he can do Botox that’s really subtle and no one would notice. He asked me if he looked like he had Botox and I said no. But apparently he uses Botox as well. |
Can you tell us your derm's name? |
| All the derms and plastic surgeons I know do botox themselves and give it to their whole families. |
Yes. Dr Perkins at Metroderm DC. Mind you I haven’t done Botox with him yet. But I love how I had no idea he had done Botox. He also told me that he cares a lot about natural results. I heard good things about Skin DC as well when it comes to this. But based on what I heard, Dr Perkins would probably be cheaper. |
| The effects are completely temporary. So there’s no harm trying it. If you don’t like it, you’ll be back to exactly the way you were in h set six months. |
| I started at 44 and like the results. Like you, I had pretty good skin but definitely had crows feet from smiling. I went to a really good derm spa and I think the results look great. It’s been two years since I started and I need to go every four months. I was just asking DH if he thought there was anything weird about how I look, and he would tell me - he said absolutely not. And this was in the context that he’s decided to start going too. If he thought I looked bad, he wouldn’t be signing up for it. |
Which derm spa did you go to? |
I’m not in dc sorry. I go to a dermologist office with a separate asthetics arm for Botox, lasers etc. The woman I see is an APRN. |
I think you should try it. Sounds like you put a lot of effort/money into maintaining your looks already. Go to a derm and ask for a natural look. If you don't like it, it will wear off is 4 months but it will likely be subtle. |
