Why do we allow Hollywood to kowtow to Chinese interests?

Despite the frosty relationship between the US and China, China’s unrelenting assault on our IP and their hacking campaigns, and China’s surveillance of our citizens through TikTok, etc. lawmakers do nothing about Chinese influence brainwashing Americans every single weekend at the big screen. This new Barbie movie is yet another dangerous example of Hollywood bending over for China that is subconsciously programming generations of Americans with pro-Chinese propaganda:

Good for Vietnam standing up to this. This also follows the same pattern of Hollywood doing things like editing out the Taiwan flag on Tom Cruise’s jacket for Top Gun and other insane stuff like editing out all of the bad guys for a movie like the Red Dawn remake who were supposed to be Chinese (they ended up making them North Korean). Enough is enough already. Hollywood should be forced to choose a side. Either they want to do business in the US and the west with free democracies or they can choose to do China and the CCP’s bidding and shouldn’t be allowed to do business in the west. The fact that they purposefully kowtow to. Chinese censors in the new Barbie movie by showing maps of the SCS and China’s ownership over it is appalling. Hollywood is a propaganda machine for China now, and they’re programming our citizens every weekend. Where is Congressional oversight over Hollywood?

I'm definitely not a fan of China, in fact, I was a China hawk way before it was socially acceptable.

That said, it is frustrating when people criticize businesses for doing business with China, after the government just spent over 50 years working to integrate our economies. So, our economies are now integrated, and that means that we can't approach them the way we did Russia in the cold war-- doing so will likely hurt the US more than it hurts China, or at a minimum, will hurt us more than taking a different approach would. We need a completely different method for dealing with China.

And part of this is on us as a culture. China has ZERO issue with being patriotic, promoting a China-first outlook, promoting Chinese values, etc. If we want to make our youth less susceptible to Chinese influence, maybe we start by looking at what we are telling kids about being American.

Money talks. China is a huge market for Hollywood. It's part of the reason there are fewer character-driven movies and more CGI/animated/super hero stuff which is very easy to translate to Mandarin.

Our national security relies on our economic dominance. These people advocating to cut off our nose to spite our face are myopic. Trump had the right idea when he tried to seize Tiktok. That's what they do to our companies.
