Adding a bathtub…question

Anonymous
The master bathroom in our new home does not have a bathtub. It has a lovely shower and an extremely wide vanity. I know for bathrooms adding anything that didn’t exist before costs a fortune, but I would really love to add a bathtub.

Does anyone know if the bathtub could be plumbed off of the same wall the vanities on? It’s not a large bathroom and I’m trying to figure out how to make space work to include a bathtub. one option I think would be to get a much shorter vanity essentially chop off the last 3/4 of it and use that space for a bathtub.

The shower is plumbed on the opposite wall of the vanity so I suppose there’s water sources at both sides, but the shower and toilet are next to each other, and I believe it cost a lot more to move a toilet. For this reason, I think the best option might be trying to have the faucet end of the tub go on the wall the sinks are on, and get a shorter vanity. Then the big issue is how they can add a drain. Ugh.

It will depend on which direction your joists are running. It can definitely be done but engineering to the stack will depend on the joists. Just get an estimate.

OP this isn’t going to happen without basically redoing the whole bathroom. Give up on the idea that you can just add it without huge expense.
