Sizing help needed for girls Speedo swim suit

Anonymous
My daughter is 10.5 and a true clothing size 10. No curves, slim. Do I get a size 10 or 12/14 in girls one piece swimsuit?

Usually the sizes are in the 20s. I think when my kid was 20 she wore a 24 girls (not women’s) racing suit

My slim daughter who wears a size 8 or 10 in clothing wears a size 24 suit, but I think it might be getting a little short for her. She's 59 inches tall and 80 pounds.

(For the person here who is going to wonder. Yes, her pants are too short, but size 12 is way too wide.)

I assume you’re looking at Speedos used for swim training and competition? Not for playing/leisure? The training and competition suit sizes don’t match with clothing size. They will be sizes 20-38. A size 20 would be for a 3-5 year old whereas size 38 would be worn by a curvy adult woman. Most 10 year old girls will wear between size 24 and 30 depending on their body shape and size. Torso length can be a big determinant, as can the child’s comfort level. Some kids will want a bigger size than they “need” because they don’t like the feeling of a very tight suit. Different styles will fit differently even for the same brand, so you should really have your daughter try them on.

If you go off clothing size, a 10 is equal to a 26. I would recommend going into SportFair in Arlington to try a suit on for the correct fit.

OP, is this for competition or just hanging out at the pool? The sizing will be different depending on the purpose. As an example, my 11 yo DDs (she’s about 4’9 and 80 lbs) 12 and U competition tech suit is a size 20, but her training suits and suits she hangs out at the pool in are 26s and 28s (she hates tight suits but knows her competition suits need to be tight).

If you’re looking for a competition or training suit, I agree with the bolded. You could also look into Metro Swim Shop on Fairfax, if that’s closer, but we’ve had better luck at Sport Fair.

Sizing varies which is why trying on can be helpful. My kid is 5’7” and wears an adult M. For practice and non-tech competition suits she wears a 32 Jolyn/Tyr/Arena and a 34 Speedo. Torso length is key and you can find sizing guides on the manufacturer’s web site.

My petite 13 year old wears size 12 bottoms and size 12 or 14 tops, and has a Speedo size 12. It's a bit tight, but the size 14 is too loose. I suggest you order a size 10 on Amazon that's returnable and go from there.

Agree with above posters - without knowing if it's a comp suit it's hard to say. My daughter wears a size 8 in 'everyday' clothes. Last year she wore a 24 but is back in a 22 suit because of her body changing to muscle. And, like women's clothing, there's such a difference between brands .

My 54 lb 49” tall 8 year old wears a size 22 Speedo endurance but size 20 TYRs and Speedos from last year that are the regular fabric because they stretched out. The endurance fabric fits smaller and tighter.

If it’s a suit with 10/12 number sizes that is more of a “fun” suit than a workout suit so the fit will be more like street clothes. Don’t buy those suits if this is for swim team because the back straps look different and my daughter says only the 8 & unders wear them.

A previous poster recommended a 26 but I think that would be big for a workout suit unless she is all torso.

I get the one piece Speedo from Costco. The girls largest size is 16-18/xxl which my daughter outgrew. She’s now wearing a women’s small for swim team. She’s 11 4,11 and 120lbs.
I know that’s too big for your DD OP.
The Costco Speedo was $14.99. If you have a membership I would look there.

So if she’s 10.5 and doesn’t do competitive swim, just likes the look of these bathing suits-would you suggest I go with a girls size 10 or girls size 12/14 at Costco?

Thank you all!

My slim not tall nearly 11 DD weighted 67lb wears Speedo 12/14 large and TYR team suit 28. You can get both sizes to try on then return the one doesn’t fit.

Go to the store to try them on. They all fit different.
