Flying commercial with giant carseat

Anonymous
I'm sure there have already been a dozen threads on this... if you remember one and could link to it, I'd be grateful.

Otherwise... I'm traveling solo with my almost-3-year-old and her humongous carseat. I do NOT want to check the seat, as we have a connection, and arriving at our destination minus a carseat would be a disaster. So how do I control the kid AND lug her seat? I've searched amazon for bags with wheels, and while these products exist, they seem very expensive, especially given that the reviews are often terrible. Have you had a good experience with a specific product? Other brilliant ideas?

Thanks.

You can get a cheap travel car seat-- I think people have recommended a cosco? We just went to BBB and picked out an inexpensive, easy to carry one.

We've used a carrier bag with backpack straps. You can wear the seat and hold dd's hand. Another option is just to strap it (with bungee cords) to lightweight folding luggage wheels. We've also done that. (I prefer the wheels; dh prefers the backpack.)

We too used the backpack adapter. Worked well enough in Europe, where finding your luggage on time is a complete crapshoot.

This weekend if our first time flying with the car seat. We found this product, it worked well at home when we tested it - hopefully it will stand up to the actual trip.

MY husband carries it on his head (with the long end down his back turban-style). He gets a lot of stares but it gets the job done!

OP here. I have this! It does work well, but only on the larger suitcases. Since I intend to check my suitcase, which is far too big to carry on, I'm concerned with getting the carseat from check-in to the gate. I don't think they'll let me take a smartcart past security... I might have to invest in folding luggage wheels. Ugh. Another thing to buy. And store.

If you're taking a stroller, you can put the seat in the stroller and have DC walk. Alternatively, I have managed to sling the seat around a shoulder, or over the handlebar of a wheel on suitcase (then tightened it up with the straps.) But this is a big reason we have the Cosco Scenera in our 2nd car - it makes a terrific travel car seat.

We travelled with a car seat carrier (backpack) ant it was really heavy and unwieldy.

We are going to try it with the smaller wheel-aboard type suitcase. If I can find this thread when I get back from our trip I'll report on how it worked.

We have it too and use it with our carry-on suitcase without a problem. We can even let DD (2y.o.) sit in it and wheel her around.

can you rent a car seat at destination instead of lugging one around? A 3 year old can sit fine in a plane without one...and you are travelling solo

What about a Go Go Kids converter? If the seat is really huge it may not fit in the airline seat and you will have to gate check it.

Go go kidz. I love it.
