Hot tub at summer rental property

Anonymous
Do most people use rental property hot tub and just assume it is being cleaned between renters? The rental units are usually week to week and know supposed to be cleaned, but…. If stay where a hot tub (we don’t seek it ou, just already at house), family would like to use, but I always wonder if it is really being cleaned or not. (Not sure why my hot tub phobia - maybe too strong a word for it, but then again, I am posting to DCUM on this so maybe it is right word.)

Hot tub owner here. If it’s being properly maintained it doesn’t need to be emptied weekly. Hot tubs use a lot of chemicals - chlorine, ph balancers, etc. - to maintain cleanliness.

Agreed. When you turn it on and a lot of "bubbles" which is really foam begin to build up, it's dirty. Call them and they will come and balance it.

I think they’re disgusting and won’t use one unless it’s attached to a pool where I know there’s weekly maintenance.

I'm a host. The hot tub is drained and cleaned twice a month. Our house cleaners sanitize it after each guest. You can ask the host how they maintain it and the last time it was cleaned.

We have a hot tub in our beach rental house. Our pool company services it weekly on turnover day. There is a whiteboard next to it where they write the date it was last serviced. I would ask either the owner or company you rent though.

I am not a hot tub person and never go in it but we are told by our property manager that people love them and you have to have one!

Lots of foam is usually laundry detergent residue from bathing suits, not dirt. They have anti-foaming additives which correct that. In our own hot tub, we have old bathing suits we use which are only washed in hot water and air-dried.

I use them - we are using one this week.

How do they sanitize it? Just shock it? Truly curious. We have a hot tub but it's part of our pool and uses the same water.

+1. How do house cleaners know how to sanitize a pool? I take care of our pool and hot tub and it requires testing and balancing the chemicals. Your house cleaners do this?

Do you mean a hot tub or a jacuzzi bath tub? Hot tub: outdoors, chlorinated water among other treatments. Jacuzzi bath: oversized tub in bathroom, Jets can get dirty if not cleaned or used often.

My mom has a jacuzzi bath tub and calls it a hot tub. Ironically they also had an actual hot tub for a time.

We don't use hot tubs. Too much potential for infections.
