France TGV train question

Is there a drastic difference between standard seating and first class on the TGV train? I'm not interested in paying more than double the price if it's not *that* much better/nicer. TIA.

No it is not significantly better. The one reason I might be willing to do it is if I was traveling by myself and wanted a single seat by itself- which first class has but standard doesn't. Standard seats are perfectly comfortable.

Make sure you book through the direct website for best prices.

I just rode the TGV several times last week in standard class and it was just fine. Roughly equivalent to Acela. Definitely nicer than the standard Amtrak trains. One caveat - the train was super hot, but I suspect that would not be any different in first class.

Thank you, PPs! Great information. Is there no A/C on the train?

There normally is. They are generally pretty modern trains. PP may have had a maintenance issue or something.

There’s not a big difference. I’ve never bothered with First class tickets unless the price difference was very small. Not worth it. Most TGV do have AC. Pp must have had a maintenance problem.

Also make sure you book through the website to be able to make changes to your tickets.
The resellers do not let you do that.
