I come across 1 star reviews like “I eat here all the time, but last night’s salad contained hardly any chicken. I’ll never eat here again.” Are these people for real? You like the place, they’ve served you well, and now you throw them under the bus because of one screwup?
Yeah, thats not very nice. I'm of the mind that customers should give their complaints right to the restaurant so they have a chance to make it right. You would expect that a regular customer would do that for sure.
Yep. It's what people do. Part of my job is to reply to public reviews like that. People will be paying for our services for 10, 15, 20+ years and give us a 1-star rating.

There are some very bored, very self-important people out there who think they're the main character. My favorites are the ones who leave 1 star reviews of things like the Lincoln Memorial, "too many pigeons!"
Just the other day I was looking at reviews of a product and I wanted to see what the chief complaint was, so I went to the one star reviews. Much to my surprise, there were several where people had written absolutely glowing reviews, but gave only one star. Apparently there are people who don’t really get how stars are supposed to work.
I have sent emails to a couple of family-owned businesses. I really try and be polite and open with a compliment. I state I am not looking for any response or freebie but feel they would want to know as owners. I only discuss issues I have with food, because problems with servers are just endemic to the industry. I always receive defensive replies, but I feel okay about writing. |
