Early induction after 5 miscarriages

Anonymous
Hi all, I’ve had 5 miscarriages (2 early, 2 second tri, and one vanishing twin). No known reasons, but the early ones happened when I was older than 37 so I’m willing to say those were genetic issues. The second tri had no known reasons. My anxiety is palpable as I’ve entered week 31. Granted, I haven’t had any third trimester miscarriages, but I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

VHC will not deliver before 39 weeks. I would like this baby out at 37 weeks given my history. I have a therapist and I am on an SSRI. I just want this baby out before it dies.

Anybody in a similar position and if so what have you/will you done/do.

OP, I’m sorry for your losses. To answer your question, after two miscarriages and a stillbirth, I delivered my now 7yo at via scheduled C-section at 37 weeks on the dot. My stillbirth was due to placental abruption so my doctors weren’t willing to risk an induction, plus baby was transverse anyway (and again, you don’t try to turn a baby whose mom previously had an abruption). I was also, AMA, on an SSRI, had GD…in any event, when given the choice between 37 and 38 weeks, MFM vetoed 38, saying the stress of an extra week wasn’t worth the minimal benefit to the baby. MFM also said that anytime after 32 weeks that they didn’t like what they saw, that baby would be out within the hour. I was seen minimum weekly starting at 24 weeks…all this to say, talk to your OB/MFM. Good luck.

I had an induction at 37 weeks and she was fine, but not completely cooked. Ended up in the NICU for jaundice, had feeding issues, very sleepy, etc. I understand the anxiety completely, but I would wait until 38-39 weeks unless there’s a medical indication to go earlier.

I know that anxiety well. I'm so sorry. At my OBs recommendation, I had induction at 37 weeks due to multiple miscarriages. Induction didn't work and I ended up with emergency C-section. Similar to PP, baby had jaundice, but was not placed in NICU. He is a healthy 16 yo now with no delays.

Regardless of hospital policy, I don't understand why your OB won't advocate for you. Surely doctors can override policy if it is in the best interest of the patient. I would start there.

Legally OBs cannot induce before 39 weeks. There must be a medical reason. Unfortunately past miscarriages aren't a good medical reason.

Sounds like more frequent monitoring might set your mind at ease

Just curious how you’re doing, OP? Did baby get here ok? Hoping your birth went well and that baby is well!!
