Buying a stairlift for mom

Where does one begin finding this and someone to install it?

We have had very good experiences with Preferred Elevator. They are based in Baltimore but routinely come to DC. We use them for elevator service but they are so nice and so knowledgeable, I'd confidently recommend them to give you an evaluation and estimate. https://www.preferred-elevator.com/

Make sure she tries one out first. My father never adjusted to it. Big waste of money. To be honest I found it scary to ride on too. Depends on the type of steps you have.

Yes this. Stairs w a turn are tricky. A straight shot is better.

Just got one for my father, Bruno has the best warranty. Have an L staircase - just got one lift on the longer straight portion of staircase. He loves it now. Best decision!

My parents have one. L shaped and multiple turns. They have loved it.

The turns are hard and only get done well if you pay for it. I think they paid 15 or 20 thousand for theirs. It has been rock solid for over a decade.

Grace In Motion was terrific.

We have an acorn, with a turn, for my mom. They can produce and install quickly, paid about $10,000. Bruno takes longer and more money, but they are known as the best in the field for curved lifts. If it’s a straight shot, much cheaper and lots of options. Agree to check out Grace in Motion-they sell lifts from several companies.

Locally, O’Neill Stairlifts - https://www.ostairlifts.com -is an independent, super knowledgeable and capable stairlift provider and installer.

My parents have three steps, then a turn then the rest of the steps. They had the chairlift installed only on the straight part.

Bumping to see if anyone has recent recommendations for installers, pricing and timeline. Is this something that can usually be done in a week or two's timeline? I would need it for late March, but am waiting a few weeks to see if my parent's mobility can be increased with some treatments they have upcoming.

Huge waste of money. Parent used it 2x, hated it, then we had to out a hospital bed in the living room. They died 2 months later. To sell the house the removal of the stupid lift cost almost as much as the install--stairs need to be replaced/refinished from the holes. Just put them in AL.

if she'd expected to live for a while, consider moving to a flat. It really simplifies things.

How much is it to install an elevator?

Instead of buying, we rented. Paid quarterly and installation (which took 20 minutes was included in cost). I think we paid $1200/year and only needed it for 2 years before selling the house.
