I'm 17 weeks pregnant and still continuing to exercise and run about 6 times a week. I've started having back pain, sciatica, and am wondering if I should lay off exercising or if excersing will make me feel better? Exercise is really my only stress relief so the thought of not doing it, makes me uncomfortable. Anyone else dealing with this? |
Don't know how tied you are to running as your form of exercise, but I know that can be tough if you're having back pain (even if you're not pregnant!) -- if there's a place you can swim, that's terrific, otherwise yoga might be a good way to go?
good luck - hope you feel better! |
I saw a chiro for my sciatica and it helped immensely! |
I would lay off running, if that is what causing the problem, and do whatever exercises don't hurt. However, you may find that pain like this comes and goes, so you could cut out running for a few weeks and then go back to it. I stopped running at 28 weeks, when I decided that my back, pelvic and hip muscles weren't going to support me any more. Swimming is great; I also did that and the recumbant bike a lot during my last trimester. Also, have you tried a prenatal yoga class? Doing those positions might get the pain to go away. |
I second the chiro and the yoga for sciatica. Great advice! And the swimming too! If you don't want to go swimming though, you could just go walking. |
