If you could only list one. Mine is using her/him in place of he/she. For example, "Her and her husband are going on vacation next week." It is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
What is yours? |
People who have pet peeves about grammar. |
That's not a grammar pet peeve. Its a generic pet peeve, but you are free to start your own thread! |
Seen instead of saw. "I seen him at the grocery store." I'm about as anti grammar grump as possible but it just sounds so silly. |
Probably when someone says I could care less, when they meant I could not care less. |
Unnecessary apostrophe's. |
People who use "and I" incorrectly and it should be "and me" but they're being pretentious |
less/fewer
Oxford commas (keep the comma! It changes the meaning of the whole sentence!) I know the rule for she/her vs. him/her, but sometimes slip up in casual conversation. I didn't learn it correctly growing up and do my best. |
Using I instead of me: "Beth went to the party with Sarah and I." |
I know it’s common now, but I hate when people say “myself” when they mean “me.”
“Please come talk to Sarah or myself. Thank you!” |
The towels "need washed" or the baby's diaper "needs changed." I understand this is a regionalism but it sounds so uneducated. |
Where do you hear this? Trying to remember if it's a baltimore thing |
Yes!! |
My ILs in Pittsburgh all say this. |
I grew up in Pittsburgh and said this until college. My boyfriend pointed it out and I had no idea it was incorrect. Pittsburgh has a lot of regional quirks. |
