I’m in the process of hiring for a position oriented at someone a few years out of college - early- to mid- 20s, so definitely Gen Z - and every single resume I’ve received and followed up on has at least one easily falsifiable thing. A job they never had, a school they never attended, etc.
I know this town is full of transient charlatans, but I don’t understand how/why anyone thinks they can get away with it these days, given the internet and the ease of checking things with schools and former employers. I’d be interested to hear if this is just something I’m seeing, or if others are, as well. |
| Background check companies are wholly useless. They pulled my background and gave me 3 addresses that weren’t mine and never were mine. Same name, guys birthday was like 40 years before mine too |
|
Ooof…you’re looking for someone with 1-3 years of experience in the field.
Age and “years out of school” have nothing to do with it. |
OP here. I assume you’re implying that this isn’t a generational thing? |
People have been lying on their resumes for years. But I was implying that your phrasing is a lawsuit waiting to happen. |
| My anonymous post about an unnamed person is “a lawsuit waiting to happen”? Got it, counselor. |
| V true that people have been lying on their resumes for years. Even prominent ones! A certain Spring Valley-based bar owner/restaurateur and self styled political operative comes to mind… the “political” side of that resume is almost entirely embellishments. |
| Examples of falsifiable false claims you've seen? |
| OP wait until you get a viable candidate don't reward the lies of these people just to quickly hire someone. |
OP again. Two that I’ve seen: saying you received a Harvard degree in the education section of your resume when you only took a course through the extension school. Saying you had a substantive role at a company when you were an unpaid summer intern. |
| Embellishing is one thing. Straight up fabrication is another. |
This is kind of to be expected though, isnt it? |
This. Age discrimination is illegal, OP. You know that, right? |
What that poster is saying is that your casual line "I’m in the process of hiring for a position oriented at someone a few years out of college - early- to mid- 20s, so definitely Gen Z" is a dangerous way of even thinking about it. |
And is probably overlooking solid candidates with the maturity to not lie on their resumes |
