Honda crv vs rav4 vs Toyota odyssey or hyundai tucson for a first time driver

Which of these cars is a smart pick for our winter weather and safe for a first time driver?

Which may have the lowest insurance cost and maintenance cost? I think hyundai comes with a 10 yr warranty but then Toyota and Honda are brand for their reliability.

If buying for a 5 yr or newer car is it best to buy used or new? Trying to save money.

I would get none of these for a first time driver I would get a sedan.
But as you asked the question I would go with which is the smallest and easiest to maneuver so either 3 that aren’t the minivan.

We have a RAV4 and a minivan. Our first time driver learned to drive both and drives both.

For winter driving practice and good TIRES matter the most.

For an adult or teen. I wouldn't get a teen a mini van. Otherwise, take them and let them pick.

First time driver like a teen? None of those. The more friends they have in the car the worse they will drive. Get a Prius or something.

We went with a Nissan rogue. I want something big enough to be safe, but not so big that you’re driving the party bus, so 5 seater only. Then, i want all the bells and whistles on safety features - camera, lane assist, park assist, curtain airbags. The. Easy to fix and Asian for reliability. So basically a crossover SUV from Honda, Toyota, Nissan or Kia.

A prius and a small SUV hold the same number of people.

Id buy tge Honda CRV or Rav 4.

RAV 4 is cheaper a bit smaller inside.

Used cars prices are insane right now and used car loans have a higher %.

I’d go with Rav 4 new if the person doesn’t feel cramped inside.

Or the Honda CRV if trey like a little more room,

These cars will drive 150000 miles and are reliable

A small SUV will offer greater visibility than a sedan. We got our teen a CR-V and it’s been a sturdy warrior for them.

Honda CRV. I had a brand new CRV and a few years ago, my then teen was driving it to school when an Uber driver blew through a redlight going around 25-30 MPH. Broad-sided my DD right on the driver's side. All the airbags deployed and the CRV was totalled, but my DD and her passenger walked away without a scratch. It could've been so much worse. Great car in my opinion!

The used car market is rough right now and cars that are only 2-3 years old are close to the same price as new. That should calm down a bit in the next year or so. So if you have to finance, it would be best to check whether you get a better offer with a new car.

You can also call your insurance company and ask about premiums for each model.

My hondas were super reliable although the alternators always seemed to go about 125,000 miles. My subaru has been amazing, with no major repairs in the past 10 years. So that might be worth considering too.

Whatever you pick make sure it has up to date safety features. When my daughter was learning to drive she whipped a hard right turn once that kicked in the stability control. She hit the curb and blew out a tire, but would almost certainly have rolled the vehicle without the stability control.
