ACPS leadership exodus

Anonymous
I'm really frustrated with the school board for not addressing the mass exodus of ACPS leadership with the superintendent. I think parents need to put the pressure on the school. Lard members. Clearly something is going on at the superintendent level that so many leaders are leaving ACPS for lateral moves at similar schools. What do you think we can do as a community to put the pressure on the schools board? And why are members holding community forums on the staggered election terms? I'm not opposed to staggered terms but it seems to be a misguided focus right now.

Yes. On the staggered terms, I can only think that those Board members are such cheerleaders for the ACPS central office that they are making the staggered terms a priority to the lessen the burden on the Central Office when there is large turnover in the school board.

Do we even know who all the school leaders who left are?

Resigned - ACHS principal, MVCS principal, GWMS principal (Dec. '22), G. Mason principal?, Macarthur asst principal? I think there were others? I'm not including the LCTA principal who retired.

Everything in the City of Alexandria is in a free fall right now.

How do staggered terms lessen the burden on the Central Office? And has the Board explained how they are going to make these changes? The city charter says that the General Assembly has the final say. To my knowledge, the school board hasn't outlined a timeline or plan that includes the general assembly.

Here is Baird and Booz’s position on this https://www.kellycarmichaelbooz.com/post/on-staggered-terms

That was such a cold letter sent to the GM community about the search for the new principal.

So they have time to spend a great deal of time on this but Booz had to go to the PTA' she's supposed to be repping and apologize for "dropping the ball" on communicating with them. Her priorities are messed up.

Booz and Baird spend time on what they care about, which is going to Democratic fundraisers and trying to get legislation passed. What PTA are you at that Booz is supposed to represent? I stopped including her on my District B emails or emails to the board because she never responds. I thought Baird was different but her misinformation classification of teachers and parents infuriated me. If they are spreading misinformtion, what is it? I will not be voting for either one of them next election. Now who can we get to run? The thing is, I don't think people want to run. And so we are left with these type of self promoters and Democratic wannabee politicians.

George Mason. Every school has a rep from the school board assigned to it. Booz was a rep to George Mason during her first term on the school board. She may be more ineffective this time than she was last time.
