| Went to Europe, and they had no ACs over there, everything is super expensive. Internet sucks, and you can’t even run the water when you fell like it: I was shocked, South America is even better than Germany and Spain. |
|
They have health care.
Why is USA first world? Usa includes eastern Kentucky and gun violence is bad. Also you can buy politicians here. |
|
South America is only comfortable if you’re in the top few percent. Europe everyone has healthcare and a safety net, and all kids can go to school. Have you seen all the young kids working for a living in South America?
AC is a luxury. Education and health care should be for all. |
| They don’t have AC because the weather used to be tolerably hit a few weeks a year, and intolerably got only a couple of days. |

No idea what you are talking about. Have experienced none of these issues except lack of A/C in place in central/north Europe- because until last 15 years they were like Pacific NW and didn't have consistent enough heat to need it. Many places in southern Europe have had A/C for decades like in the southern US.
Here is a random street view from Naples (not a rich city, and this isn't an especially nice area). You can see the A/C units on most of the apartments on the patios or on the walls outside. These are the exterior units for mini-splits. 76 Via Brindisi https://maps.app.goo.gl/eZNFsCsQuhcHm4rY7 |

Because "first world" actually meant "demovratic and aligned with the US," as opposed to "second world," which meant aligned with the USSR, and "third world referred to nonaligned countries. It's a Cold War term that came to refer to standards of living by association.
And even now, it's not defined by AC. European countries generally have strong social safety nets and social welfare programs, good infrastructure, functioning democracies and pretty stable institutions, a generally well-educated population, etc. I mean, lots of places in the US and Canada don't have AC because it really wasn't necessary until recently. |
| I think Korea and Japan are new 1st world from tech, health care, fashion and yes, AC. |
What are you prattling on about? Europe is a continent dimwit, there is going to be a lot of variation. Germany does not have much a/c because until recently (thank you global warming) they did not need it since the average summer temps were in the high 70s. Are you from some podunk town that you think "everything" is expensive? Major metro areas (London, Paris, Rome, etc) are expensive, sure. They are here, too. I really hope you stay home more. |
Just send OP to Flint to check out the awesome running water there |
|
Where were you that you couldn’t getting running water?
It might be the town you went to specifically, not an entire continent. |
This is the correct answer. |
|
Omg by your def OP the IS us a now 2nd/3rd world country. You realize our infrastructure, healthcare and the fact that gun violence can Jill you in any major city makes us a laughing stock in the world yes?
Honestly Europe does have AC in major tourist locations in most countries not sure where you are going to? And as far as expenses are you seeing how much our stuff is? Add to that the basic issues of having too much stress and there you go! |
| AC in Italy is laughable compared to the US. I’m not complaining - I didn’t expect it to be as cold as we have here (nor did I want it to be). Just means that instead of sweat running down my face, it only runs down my back, my pits and behind my knees. Besides, we’re probably contributing to the worsening of the ozone |
| Many spots in Asia are better and far cheaper for what you get. |
