Those two do stand alone, I'll agree. But have you read The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco?

Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum. It's a tough read though.

I loved The Da Vinci Code, both book and movie!

I love Umberto Eco, but I think the OP should know his books are really heady and literary.

I think I'd recommend Robert Harris or Daniel Silva for a similar style to Dan Brown.
