| I am completely immersed in BBC shows like As Time Goes By and in books like Maisie Dobbs. I think I have a problem! I prefer those to my real life. Like I just love being in their world. What is wrong with me? —Mid-40s DC lawyer. |
| Sounds perfectly normal to me! |
We could be great friends. As Time Goes By is one of my very favorite shows. |
| How's the weather in the Channel, Mrs. Bale? |

I’m also a mid/late 40s lawyer, and I am drawn to all things British. The first time I went to the UK, my BFF said she truly believed I must have had a lively past life in the English countryside given how I came alive during the trip. I feel like I could be very happy living in a coastal or pastoral British village. I really escape when watching British period pieces.
Maybe you had a lovely past life across the pond, op? |
| Same. Mid 50s woman. |
At one point I was watching Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey and The Crown. I referred to my apartment as a flat, and appropriated other British-isms. I've never left the US.

My iPhone language is British English, and I don’t apologize for the British spellings in my texts.
Maybe we should start a club or something. |

My recurring fantasy us to live in a village.
(DS points out that inevitably at least one villager would be an annoying coot in any village big enough to have a pub.) |
| I am English and I haven't been back in the UK since 2017 so I do in fact LIVE via these shows. Its ok its just another form of escapism. |
| Maisie Dobbs is such a great book series! Wish I knew more like this. |
You are all my people here. |

I love lots of things British. In addition to many newer shows one of my favorites is The Nanny (not the American show) about a nanny during the 1930s through WWII in Britain, I had to buy the DVD boxed set to watch it again a few years back and I also had to buy a special DVD player because US players wouldn't work. Totally worth it!

| I need some escapism. I haven’t heard of these but I’m def gonna check them all out. Thanks OP! |
