Backyard noise question

If you live in a house where all the neighbors have a fenced in back yard, what do you think is reasonable regarding noise outside?

My feelings are that it is shared air space so we really should be mindful, even if we have kids. DH doesn't have a clue about this, he will play music outside to enjoy in the backyard, etc...

Your thoughts?

If it's not early in the morning or late at night, I don't care. We don't spend much time outside in the backyard but our neighbors do and they're free to play music.

I think you just need to use common sense. It's fine to play music. It's not fine to blast music. 3:00 on a Sunday? Fine. 2:00 in the morning? Not fine.

Hearing noise from your neighbors is just part of living in close proximity. If you don't like it, move to the country. But that doesn't give anyone a license to be an a-hole, either. Golden rule and all that. It's not that complicated.

Same as PP - we’re on a corner lot so only share two fences but we can hear neighbors a hour or two over sometimes enjoying their backyard. So long as it doesn’t go to 1am I don’t care. Our backing neighbors have young kids and lots of bounce house parties that are loud in terms of screaming/screeching etc. but I play music loudly in the house and windows/doors open so - we all live.

I'm an anxious nervous nelly so I am always worried about making too much noise, especially after quiet hours. My husband is like yours and is living his best life with soundtrack. Rationally, I think the right thing to do is somewhere in the middle.

I try to be considerate and don't play music outside. If I'm listening to something while gardening, I wear my earbuds. If I were having a party, music would be fine as a one-off. My neighbors are the same.

If a neighbor was playing loud music on a regular basis, I'd be annoyed. I want to enjoy nature, not listen to someone else's play list.

His music is fine until a certain hour.
Nothing loud after 10ish on work nights, midnight for Friday - Saturday.

We all have backyard pools so I expect noise and music. My son is probably the worst offender. The neighbors directly behind us have little kids so lots of little kid screaming.

Anything up until 9/10pm I'm fine with. We haven't had any issues.

Playing normal music is fine. We had some people move in 2 streets away and they put up a stage in their backyard and blasted earsplitting music for much of the weekend. They finally came to their senses after a dozen neighbors called in noise complaints.

There are legal parameters on this OP, its' not an opinion thing. Look up your local authority and see what it says in terms of hours / days and types of noise - party / music / construction etc
