First two days of camp super chaotic?

Anonymous
My kids are at Sandy Spring and it seems like they are a mess this year. Last year the first day was crazy for drop off but the kids seem to have had good days pretty much right away. This year my older child is upset because the counselors seem super confused and have tried to send DC to the wrong after camp care both days and DC had to argue with them to get to the right place. And yesterday they walked around in the rain and couldn’t figure out where they were supposed to be, resulting in a couple kids not being able to do their workshop because they got to the location and no one was there. I’m hoping they were just thrown off by the rain but it sounds way more chaotic than last year. I’m trying not to complain because it doesn’t sound like there have been any safety issues and the younger ones group seems to be figuring stuff out ok. But I really hope they get it together soon. Anyone else having a rough start to camp?

YMCA camps have sucked the first 2 days. Hoping it improves or I’m gonna have to pull kid out.

Last year they didn't have any buses/shuttles the first day, so that was a major part of the problem. And then the Olney shuttle was late all the first week. This year the shuttle has been on time. My kid has only complained that her aftercare friend is in another group and they can't play together. I would guess there is a ton of variability in how clueful the counselors are.

I am concerned it’s the counselors. My younger one had an amazing day yesterday and my older one said they were still confused. Like they can’t adapt to the rain or changes in schedules.

My kids HATE the aftercare so much. They said they just stand there for the first 30 minutes while they get checked in. They love the aftercare at their school so it’s discouraging.

Try Sonshine. It’s in the same area, costs less, and is super well organized. My kid is going for her 5th summer.
We did SS and it wasn’t worth the extra money.

I don’t think the supervision is great. A kid broke his arm at SSFS camp yesterday.

Yeah but apparently he broke it playing Gaga ball? Seems like kind of a freak accident.

Things usually settle down in a couple days.
