As I'm sure many of you did, I received a class-action type document in the mail, saying that I was entitled to a refund of fees charged by my credit card on purchases I made overseas. I didn't read the whole thing, but I did spend as much as eight weeks a year in Europe for my last job, from 2001 - 2005.
Has anyone followed up on this? What was your experience? Is the refund amount worth the paperwork? Can it be done without a ton of paperwork? Thanks |
I followed up and filed the paperwork, but haven't received ANYTHING back. I think I did the paperwork back in January.
Oh- and you can fill out the needed forms online.
As I recall, when I submitted my paperwork, I read that the amount of the refunds wouldn't be known before the deadline for submitting claims since the refund amount depended on how many claimants there were to split the settlement. I think two out of the three settlement options required only a few minutes to do online. The only one that struck me as labor-intensive was the option to itemize each foreign transaction for the period in dispute.
Yes, I don't think the payout will happen for at least a few months, and the amount will depend greatly on how many people submit claims and for how much.
I also am abroad a lot for my job, so I made an estimation and sent it in Jan. No news yet!

Has anyone heard anything on this yet? I ran across this article online - http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/currency-conversion-fee-refund-deadline-1282.php.
