PSA: Check your lugnuts

Anonymous
I was driving on the beltway earlier today and was very surprised when my tire FELL OFF my car. I was able to safely pull over and get the car towed to a repair shop. The tow truck driver said that all my lugnuts were loose. It is a miracle that nobody got hurt and there was no damage. So save yourself from a terrifying incident and check your nuts.

Wow, OP. That sounds really scary! Did you get new tires recently, or have balance, alignment, rotation?

Glad you're ok and thanks for the PSA.

Yep. I was once hit by a tire that came loose from a car and flew over the median. Tire came right down on top of my car.

Or do you live in DC where they steal tires?

This is literally my irrational fear. Sounds like it’s not that irrational. Glad you’re ok!

Tires can be stolen anywhere.

Check your spare tire for proper inflation too. I found out the hard way

As a kid we were driving a travel trailer overnight down to Florida and lost a trailer tire this way! My dad pulled over and rolled it back down the NJ turnpike and put it back on!
