| Is that like $150k in DMV? What do you think? |
|
According to Nerd Wallet, yes it's about 168K in DC equivalent. I'm not sure that I buy it, though. I know people paying 2K+ for 1 room in an apartment. NYC level insane stuff. I don't know that it's all that common in DC.
You can of course make 200K in SF work as a single person. As a family the lifestyle might take an adjustment. |

I know somebody who earned $200k in the dc metro area and moved to SF for $350k. They ended up in a ground floor shoebox in a supposedly decent area yet it was ridiculously expensive and she felt unsafe. She ended up relocating elsewhere in northern CA where what we call $hit boxes start north of $1M.
It’s expensive in SF and the surrounding areas. And no online calculator can adequately prepare you for it. PS - I earn north of $200k at my dc job and I don’t think it’s enough to support my far flung suburban life. |
| Plenty of people make that much or less and make it work in SF. You may need to live somewhere in the East Bay, but you can certainly make it work. |
