McLean HS won the DC region’s “It’s Academic” contest for the second year in a row.
Way to go, Highlanders! |
| Fantastic job! |
| That's very cool, especially that McLean was able to win two years in a row. |
|
I noticed that the Board of Supervisors, and not the School Board, recognized McLean HS's team when it won It's Academic in 2022.
Is it considered a higher honor to get acknowledged by the Board of Supervisors, or is the School Board just afraid of getting called out for their neglect of the school? |
Two of the three students on the team are Asian-American. One is the first kid to ever be the third generation on the show (his grandfather and father were also on “It’s Academic” as HS students). The other was also a top 10 Regeneron finalist this year. The community is very proud of the entire team! |
| Is it only the close-in counties allowed to participate |
No - there was a team from Fauquier in the playoffs and teams from Prince William in the regular season. The Baltimore-area teams used to compete in a separate “It’s Academic” competition, but I’m not sure they have a sponsor now (WETA sponsors the DC-area competition). |
