Georgetown Pediatrics -- recommendations?

Anonymous
We have decided for various reasons to go with Georgetown Pediatrics and we want to make an appointment to meet one of the pediatricians but I don't have any idea who to ask for. If anyone has any recommendations of who we should try to get as our primary physician (or who to avoid!) I would really appreciate the guidance. Thanks in advance.

You may want to rethink GU peds. You will see different people and probably a resident. Nothing wrong with residents but there are so many well baby visits and sick visits its nice to have continuity of the same set of doctors. The parking is terrible and blood draws are done in their lab. The techs are horrible with children. The nurses or techs in a good peds office can be much better.

Thanks. I certainly have seen the criticisms of GU on this board (and have experienced some of the problems in their OB practice) but I haven't come across another practice that really suits our needs. By all means, if you have a recommendation for someone who has rights at Georgetown, experience with preemies and parking at their offices, I would love that name as well. Anyplace downtown DC or Arlington will work. Upper Northwest and Maryland will not.

We left GU pediatrics after never seeing the same resident twice despite repeated requests. The final straw was my experience with the lab, which was unpleasant to say the least.

FYI--they never ever told me that I could not see a non-resident doctor until DS was, like, 18 months old. Until then, we'd never see a doc more than once. If this bothers you, you should ask and ee if this is still the case. We switched to a practice where I could see the same doc every visit. Wish I had done it MUCH sooner.

I have no recommendations for you beyond sharing this info. Sorry. Good luck.

Dr. Wolfgang Rennert, or Dr. Anne Richmond. Or go to Med/Peds in Internal Medicine--Dr. Michael Donnelly or Dr. Amy Burke. Last time we took our daughter to the lab there was one guy doing kids who was very good. We had to wait a while to see him but he made it as pleasant as possible. We always valet park without a problem and it's not very expensive.

We went to the practice once to see a ped. specialist. The waiting room was a total zoo!! We attend a practice in MD, so I will not offer it up, but I would have to say in the 5+ years of visits to our multi-doc practice, I have never seen the chaos of my one visit to the GU peds. Perhaps it was just a bad day. We chose not to return. That said, I was very happy with the ob/gyn practice and delivery at GU. Our son was born critcally ill and was in the NICU for 11 days. He received excellent care by specialists and the NICU's top flight nursing staff. Witout a doubt, they saved our son's life.
