AITA: leaving coworkers

Company has a hiring freeze and are not backfilling positions. They just cut all budgets by 20%.

All teams are stretched. My team will be down 1/3 this summer due to open positions and parental leaves.

I’d start looking for a new job. Company doesn’t sound like it’s going to last.

You take care of yourself -- if you find a better, more stable position, take it. Just start documenting what you do, so that those who are left can figure it out.

Your company sounds short-sighted and like it doesn’t care about staff. Temps can be hired, especially for known absences like parental leave.

You aren’t daring to suggest that your colleagues shouldn’t be taking parental leave, are you?

NTA.

Get out while the getting is good. You owe nothing to your coworkers other than a good transition.

Agree.

Your co workers are actively trying to leave you. So they will understand completely.

I meant “leave too.” Didn’t mean to imply any of this was OP’s fault.

This is what happens before a company does a layoff. You’d be stupid not to be looking.

Best thing you can do is to find an opportunity and recruit your coworkers to come with you.
