DC car sharing experiences? Zipcar, getaround, free2move

We live in DC and do not have a car, which we are generally very happy about.

However, we have some friends and family who live in the DC suburbs, and getting to them via public transit is a pain. I'd say about 4-8 times a year, we wish we could have a car just for a few hours to go visit them. So we're considering signing up for a car share service.

I used Zipcar when it first came out, about 10 years ago?, and generally had a good experience. I cancelled because there was a $50 annual fee and I wasn't using it enough to justify the fee (probably only 2 or 3 times a year).

There are more options now - Zipcar is still around, there's getaround, and there's free2move, there may be others. Anyone have recent experience with any of them, specifically in DC?

My priorities are availability, price, and avoiding hiccups/problems.

I should add that we'd probably never use a 1-way option (we're always going round trip) and we don't mind planning ahead - we'd basically always have at least 3 days notice. There are Zipcar spots within a couple blocks of our house, so that's an option. And an annual fee isn't a dealbreaker anymore, I'd be fine with the $90 a year that Zipcar currently costs.

Not sure how I feel about a true car sharing (where you're using someone else's actual car, which is what getaround is.
