Thoughts after the zoom yesterday?
Alexander Duncan -https://www.acpsk12.org/news/?p=17771 He was at Minnie Howard during the rape cover up. He certainly has a background that many can identify with. Says he will support teachers on discipline which would be a good change from Balas. His concern for safety does fall flat considering the rape and the violent fights. Marcie Rice - I like that she started her session and greeted parents in Spanish. And it sounds like she would continue to support student walk outs on political issues that the district supports so the students can do that without punishment. She'd also continue restorative justice program and fully supports current equity push. |
I really tired of certain poster (posters?) who keep bringing up allegations of an incident at MH. I think it's very telling that the local press has not run with this story, and that tells me that they way certain people describe it on DCUM is neither reliable or verifiable in any way. |
My DD (now in college) consistently names Mr. Duncan as one of the absolutely best teachers and humans she encountered in ACPS. She went k-12.
So there is my single, anecdotal data point for you. |
So when the school board chair emailed the mayor, city council and school board about a gang rape in a minnie howard bathroom that resulted in an ambulance going to the school to get the victim... that was what exactly? Alderton making things up? |
So neither have a plan or focus on education. Or does that not matter to you either?
From what you wrote, I definitely don’t need to hear anymore about Rice and her priorities, and they aren’t math, reading, and writing. |
So rather than watch their entire q&a sessions, you’re going to form opinions based on an anonymous forum? Solid plan. |
Those are Alexandria's priorities. Those were the questions that parents asked first. |
It doesn't matter.
You sound like Hutchings who was fond of saying that white teachers can't teach black kids. |
Rice already disqualified herself if the top line is BS. I’ll have to look at Duncan to have an opinion, but if they were the two finalists, is Rice there to sell Duncan (insider), or is a comparable candidate. As a district insider, that works both ways. Either way, I’ve already looked for any strategic plan by either candidate or the district, and there is none. I expect no change. |
As it turns out they aren’t teaching much of anything. “All schools accredited (if you lower the standards)”. |
Duncan would be a good choice, but looks like the supe is cleaning house to bring in a bunch of her mini me’s. |
Which is funny considering that she's Hutchings' mini me. |
Why do students need to walk out? If the district wants to support civic and political engagement, then they should have a class on that topic. And current political issues can be included as they come up through discussions/reports/letter writing exercises. Walking out seems like the least educational way to explore these issues in a school setting. |
So that the administrators and parents can be proud of their fake social justice warriors. |
That’s really too bad because there are so many ways to include there topics in a school setting from debate, to poetry, to visual art, etc. Not to mention that only allowing walkouts for district-supported positions could be a violation of free speech. |
