| Dc tells me a student ODed at open lunch last week. Seems like someone should be keeping track of the overdoses. Are they? |
| Probably. But true question- what do you want the schools to do? There’s a lot of education and parent training. Im not sure what the benefit would be to announce OD’s. |
Seems like the community should know so it can be taken more seriously. |
Which school was this at? I need verification since a lot of posters here just make things up to suit their preferred narrative. |
Which school did the overdose happen? In terms of if they're being tallied, maybe. In terms of whether they'll ever release the data if they have it? Hell no. MCPS doesn't want the bad press. |
A “tally” makes you take ODs more serious? |
| It would be absolutely irresponsible if not. In order to make data driven decisions….MCPS needs to have data. Whether they actual share the data is another story. |
| Any tally would be done by the county health department. Not all ODs happen at school. |
If there is a tally being kept, I can assure you that MCPS will not make it public. It will NOT show up in the weekly 5 Things You Should Know email. MCPS certainly does not want to highlight the fact that we have a serious drug problem IN our schools. |
Not true. MCPS has to record incidents that happen on school grounds. So there's some record somewhere. The only data we got on youth overdoses was from MCPD, not any health agency btw. MCPD, MCPS and yes, MC DHHS all track this data and should be sharing it. |
And specifically, the fact that one of the more alarming ways drugs is getting in our schools is from student dealers. |
Would teachers or janitors be more or less alarming? |

MCPS info page https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/info/fentanyl/
48 youth overrides (11 fatal) in MoCo in 2022. |
That data is from MCPD, not MCPS. |
That is helpful, at least. I do think it would be beneficial to public health to know how many occurred at school or near school (open lunch). |
