Are semester tests permitted at MCPS?

It sounds like another name for exam, which are not allowed.

We have a few teachers giving them this week. Really crummy.

Yes with very little notice. At least if you know the beginning of the semester you were having a final exam you wouldn’t be scrounging around a couple of days looking for every old test or quiz. And of course, they do know return many of them.

As long as they are not over 25% of the All Task Assessment Category total points for the quarter they are totally allowed.

Are parents really complaining that their kids will be tested on what they learned this semester?

I'm complaining as the principal said there would be no new assignments this week and the teacher said there would be a take home test today and it hasn't been released today.

Ok. So there's miscommunication between the principal and teacher. But honestly, what difference does a take home test week make. School is still in session. Seems fair game to me.

Considering semester exams are not allowed, this is grounds for complaint. MCPS schools need to be consistent and equitable. Teachers are not entitled to break the rules based on their preferences.

Semester Exams are allowed. They just aren't a separate 10% grade like they used to be. They have to be part of the All/Task Assessment category and cannot be more than 25% of the total pts in that category.

Portfolios, Final projects and final papers are still allowed as well as long as they follow the above.

Most of our teachers have closed grading/assignments as of today or thursday. So, it's a bit bizarre to do it this week vs. last week.

Please cite. I’m curious if whatever you are basing your claim contradicts the above reference.

Final exams aren't allowed (meaning stuff your child learned Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4). No reason why they cannot have a marking period exam (stuff they learned Q4).

You have to wait for AP exams if you want your child to be tested on "the whole course."

Pathetic to not allow final exams for year long courses
