We are in north Arlington and it seems that our drinking water (filtered and boiled) gives a bitter taste that made my 10-year-old gag. It started since last weekend and I'm wondering if residents in the same area are experiencing the same thing? |
No, I’m near Discovery. |
Nope. |
It tastes weird in MoCo. I think it might have to do with the drought? |
It’s because there is an algal bloom in the Potomac. There is an increase in a substance called geosmin which alters the smell and taste of the water. |
No, but I eyes get red after showering. |
Mine tastes chemically it's been worse the last 3 days. |
Google WSSC Geosmin |
I'm experiencing the same in Arlington. It's dreadful. |
Its the drought. Have you driven by the river lately? Its a trickle. Pray for rain! |
Yes! Horrible. Tastes like dirt. Does using a filter help? I normally am fine with tap water, but just bought bottled water because it’s undrinkable. |
It’s the drought. |
So glad I found this! Yes mine is disgusting. I called the water people today and they put in a ticket and are coming out today. |
We just moved here - is that the moldy aftertaste I'm experiencing? Also smells slightly moldy |
I'm in Falls Church, and this happened with our water about a week ago for a couple of days. I couldn't even drink the coffee I brewed with it. It went away after a couple of days and is fine now. |
