So the SY23-24 budget was just finalized and MCPS already knows they have to find a way to account for $200M in SY24-25 to cover items currently in ESSR funding. Wow.
What do we think will be cut? |
| Hours for special ed paras at my school are getting cut. About the same number of special ed students, though. |
Where are you seeing that amount as being currently in ESSER funding? https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/CSJR4E67517D/$file/Final%20Adopt%20of%20FY%202024%20Op%20Bdgt%20230606.pdf |
Sorry it $40M in ESSR but about $200M overall that they know needs to be budgeted for from the start. They talked about all the numbers during the BOe meeting. https://mcpsmd.new.swagit.com/videos/233177 |
I thought special ed was getting increased support with this budget?? |
Not at our school. Or at least so far. |

Interesting observations:
12.0 FTE math coach positions............math coaches, not math content specialists 4.0 FTE academic opportunity specialist positions..........are these counselors or not? what is academic opportunity specialist? 40.0 FTE for English language development teacher positions.........40 more ESOL teachers 10 FTE security assistant positions for middle schools...........only 10 more and only for MS. There are 40 MS in MCPS. Nothing for HS. 33.75 FTE for Preschool Education Program inclusive classrooms— 33.75 more for pre-school (someone will get more access to free pre-school and sorry if you have to pay for your own pre-school) 2 FTE for Office of Finance for budget coordination...... Yes, more FTE for central office 4 FTE for Central Blueprint administration ...... Yes, more FTE for central office Additional communications support—1.0 FTE director I position......Yes, one more central office director

Interesting… it was said that due to projected enrollment there was 138 new special Ed teaching positions. So guess we’ll see how that all works out |
| “a coordinator for the Department of Compliance and Investigations and the Equal Employment Opportunity complaints, Americans with Disabilities Act-related issues, and union grievances” reads like a system set up to fight its employees. Are they admitting to being a terrible employer? |
Or it could be a system setting itself up to better address complaints and compliance issues. |
