Gym distance

Right now I’ve been going to nearby gyms but they close at 10pm — 5 min drive

If I join OneLife they are open till 11pm but would be more $$ and be close to a 20 min drive.

So I wonder if I would trade my mid day workouts (bc 40 min vs 10 is huge during work day) but being able to leave at 950 vs 850 would change the game.

How far do most people travel for gyms?

The real answer is to get up at 5am but I’ve had zero success (kids school drop off is 7am so it’s 5am or bust)

Get a bike or something for the house for morning/night go to nearby gym on weekends.

It’s a time suck for sure. I am a member at one of the premium one life gyms. That allows me to go to all of them. I mostly go to the one in crystal city for its crappy pool - but I never have to wait for a lane.

We have no space for home gym.

OP, could you do something over lunch break? Where are you located?

When I work from home I can go to the gym 5 min away.

But I drop off kids at 8 and then work my day until kids get home around 5. I often have the day slip by with meetings or deliverables, it’s much easier after everyone is in bed asleep at 9 to sneak away — but since closes at 10 I need to sneak away at 830 which is less helpful and harder to pull off

They likely have a free trial period. Try it for a week. It would be too far for me.

I’m the same, OP. I do workout videos at home, which are not ideal but better than nothing. Barre and yoga videos take up very little space. I also run when I can but some one else has to be home.

I would not be able to stand 40 minutes in the car for the gym. I rarely use my gym that’s 10 minutes away (plus parking and check in etc…) for me some thing is better than nothing. I like 5:45 (done by 6:55), something fast during the work day or something low key in the evening. I can’t run at night or I have trouble sleeping. It’s difficult but I do my best

I'm confused about the question. Is the OP saying the gym that is open later would work better so they could go later in the evening, like after kids go to bed?

You can get a Studio mirror, they take up very little space.

No gym is worth it if you can’t there. 40 minutes round trip is far but if you get there, it’s worth it.

I used to go at lunch to a gym across the street from my office. Since the pandemic, I go to my basement. Convenience is key for me with kids and everything else I have going on.

I think you will find that the 20 minute drive is too much, especially since your day is already busy. Do they offer a trial period at all? Perhaps one week.

Gym closest to home. I can not imagine driving 20 min each way to the gym and know I would never go if I have to add 40 min onto my "workout" time.

Do the week trial period and see how it works out.
