Math Enrichment for APS kid

Anonymous
I'd like DD to work on math this summer and want to make sure that any enrichment we do will be consistent with the APS math curriculum. Any workbook or online programs (eg IXL, Beast Academy) suggestions? This is for a rising 5th grader. Thanks

APS honestly does not really have a math curriculum. As such, anything you do will help. Singapore math makes an “extra practice” series that is good. There is also “challenging word problems”. Math mammoth has a placement test on its site and you could start there and then buy the supplemental topics (or the whole book) for where your daughter is.

Beast is fantastic if you know the topics, but it does not line up with the scope and sequence of any math curriculum. It’s really great for building number sense, though.

Kahn academy is nice. I like it because it actually gives lessons vs just exercises.

If your kid loves math, maybe they could join a math circle (there was one in Fairfax when my kid was younger, maybe there's one closer to home now)? That would give them year-round enrichment and a friend group that shares their interests
