What are you reading for June?

Thought I'd start a thread for the new-ish month.

I'm about halfway through The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. I'm not a particular magical realism fan but really loving it.

I've been reading Claire Keegan. first Foster which was made into a film recently The Quiet Girl.

Now her booker prize nominated Small Things Like These

brief, evocative, moving stories.

Right now, a cozy mystery set in the competitive world of dog shows.

First poster (reading Seven Moons) here - I love Claire Keegan! Small Things Like These was magnificent.

Started the book Horse, and it’s eh. I’m thinking of moving on. I have a new stack of books to try: City of Thieves, Covenant of Water, Love Songs of WEB Debois, Cloud Cuckoo Land, Demon Copperhead, and On The Savage (Tiffany McDaniel).

The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory. I haven't read anything of hers since the Other Boleyn Girl many years ago, but I love a hefty historical fiction with romance elements in the summertime, and as I recall, she really does her research. So far, enjoying it.

Cloud Cuckoo Land is really good! It starts slow but then really envelops you. It would make a great book for a summer vacation. Very satisfying.

Just finished Verity and We Were Once a Family. I have a book called The Perfect Marriage - a DC based mystery thriller that I'll probably read next. Need something light after We Were Once a Family (which I highly recommend).

Oh, that’s good to hear! I’m usually not into fantasy, but I absolutely love Anthony Doerr so I figured I’d try.

You may already have read them, but I highly recommend Dorothy Dunnett and KJ Charles for good historical fiction reads with a big dollop of romance

I’m halfway through Collapse by Jared Diamond. I loved Guns, Germs, Steel but I was a little wary of the premise of this one (was I going to come away convinced our inevitable demise is unalterable and fast approaching?) but so far it’s been very very interesting and more hopeful than I expected.

I’m also about halfway through Lucie Yi is Not a Romantic by Lauren Ho and am not looking it quite so well as Last Tang Standing, I think because I disagree with the main character’s choices a lot more and a lot of the central conflict is around a failure to communicate in a relationship which isn’t my fave romance plot driver.

I just finished Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs: two estranged half-sisters tasked with guarding their family’s library of magical books must work together to unravel a deadly secret at the heart of their collection

Highly recommend

Have you read interviews about her process? She took 10 years to write this book, after Foster, which is amazing given it's what something like 114 pages only.

I just finished The House is on Fire by Rachel Breland, its historical fiction based on a Richmond theater fire in the 1800s. I really enjoyed the book!
