Methylphenidate Hydrochloride Er

It was easy to fill last month. This month I have called 6 pharmacies - all on back order and now my insurance does not cover it. They will cover the higher dose which is not great since it would almost make me want to increase the dosage just to have it covered.

I asked both Walgreens, CVS and Safeway if they had a central database that could help me locate it and they said no. That seems crazy since we all live in a digital world at this point. Probably just a vent, since others are in the same situation.

That's BS. Walgreens at least has a regional database and they can see which pharmacies in the area have which medicine in stock. They were able to send me across town when Tamiflu was in short supply this winter.

I’m not an expert in this (DD just recently diagnosed with adhd) but could you switch to the brand name (Concerta)? It seems concerta is easier to find (but maybe not covered by insurance?.)

OP - That is sad, I called two Walgreens and they were not helpful at all.

I will ask doctor about Concerta if I strike out tomorrow.

Can you have your doctor write a script for the higher dose and just dispense it as normal? My doctor prescribed the 10mg, but I only dispensed 2.5ml to get the 5mg dose.

We had an issue last month but my husband found it in MD at a CVS in a Target store. Apparently they are on different distribution schedules.

Also check with whichever online pharmacy your insurance is associated with - they often will fill 90 days instead of 30 and may or may not have a different supply chain. (I switched to online fulfillment when I couldn't find Adderall some months ago, but then on my last refill, the online pharmacy couldn't fulfill it and cancelled it on me, but I could find it in a store that time.)

My doctors office was also able to help me find it, but its a big practice.

OP - Thank you all! I will try Maryland. My insurance mail order did not have it.

Go to a medical pharmacy like Foers

I just spent the morning on the phone with my insurance, as they called around to 7 different pharmacies to see if anyone could fill even part of our normal 3 month prescription for dexmethylphenidate (out of stock for a month at the mail order pharmacy). Target, regular CVS, Safeway, Walmart ... all out of stock.

Now I have to hope my doctor can call the script to the one place they found with any available before they run out too.

Your insurance was amazing!

How much are you currently paying the doctor who prescribes this? Trying to comparison shop.

I take it (live in CA) and there have been issues all over the place! Because it’s a controlled substance they actually apparently are not even supposed to tell you what you have in stock if you call around!

I’ve managed by switching from 36 mg (my regular doze) to 2 tablets of 18 mg and then this month back to 36 when they were out of the 18. I also have been skipping more often on weekends to save up if I have trouble getting it filled. Good luck!

I’m not sure if this will work, but I’d ask the insurance to cover brand name temporarily since you can’t get generic. We finally switched to Vyvanse because I couldn’t take the stress but it took months of treatment failures to get the approval. The whole system is a disaster. I hope you can get it filled.
