| My teen DS has a very small appetite and as such he has a very slight build. I've been trying to get him to eat more but there is only so much I can do. Besides his weight, my other greater concern is his possible lacking in certain vitamin and mineral levels. Do you have your teens take supplements? If so, which one? |

My kids take D, and nothing else but they also go by the nicknames of Hoover and Dyson because they eat constantly.
I would probably consider a multivitamin otherwise. |

Is he underweight? If he’s not maybe he’s just going to be small. You need to be ok with this.
Offer healthy foods. He shouldn’t need vitamins. |
thanks for the laugh. I wish my DS at more, it is really a struggle!
|
| If he’s not hungry and is otherwise happy why does he have to eat more? What does he eat? |
Very underweight, yes. He's 5'9, 112lbs. I'm not okay with that because it is in the "very underweight" category. |
| Multivitamin, probiotic and omega 3. |
What does he eat in a normal day? |
This just doesn't seem to be a problem to me. Why do you want to fatten him up? Does he want to gain weight? FWIW, I am a woman... 5'11" and 120 lbs now. When I was 16, I was about 5'10" and less than 100 pounds. Some people are just built really thin. |
| Magnesium and multi. My kid is very underweight too. |
Has he lost weight recently or always been thin and underweight? If this is his normal, then I might give a high quality multivitamin but I wouldn't feel it's necessary. Fwiw, both of my kids are underweight, always have been (and DH and I both were as children but not anymore lol). I give them a multivitamin sometimes but don't stress when we are out. |
| Yes. Multivitamins with omega 3, he likes gummies, I think it’s Nature Made brand. He isn’t underweight or small but he doesn’t eat enough fruit, veggies, and calcium foods. |
Thanks PP. No he hasn't lost weight recently. He's steadily been this weight for a long time. That is a good question by the way, thanks for asking! |
| B12 because vegetarian. |
My son is 5'11, same weight. It's been a struggle. The reality is he eats quite well, unlike your DC. But he never, ever snacks. Only eats when he is really hungry, at mealtimes. We ensure adequate protein, and pack a 30g protein drink in his lunch on school days. He has the metabolism of a hamster and there doesn't seem to be much more we can do. His father had the same build and filled out when he was older. But maybe try the protein drinks for your son? As for supplements, we do quite a bit: multi+fish oil+ vitamin d+ vitamin b+magnesium daily. Occasional zinc and iron on low-meat weeks. |
