Glove box broken into

| Came outside to car this am and thieves had taken everything out of glovebox, console and drivers side storage well. Didn’t take the EZ pass or registration. What were they looking for and do I file a police report? |

File a report if you want to make an insurance claim and/or if you'd like to have any hope of recovering whatever was in fact taken.
As to what was being sought, it could have been cash, credit/debit cards, a checkbook, a firearm, your drug stash, a cell phone or tablet, a laptop out of sight under the seat, the trunk release to gain access to whatever is in the trunk, a garage door opener or house keys along with the vehicle owner's home address from the vehicle registration so the the thief could try to gain entry to the home by using the garage door opener, or almost anything imaginable which could conceivably be stored temporarily or permanently in a glove box or storage compartment. |

Isn't your car's VIN simply on the bottom of the front windshield. Couldn't they just photograph that if it was really what they wanted. |

They are looking for cash, and electronics they can sell easily. Assuming your car was unlocked and not damaged and nothing of value was taken you do not need to file a police report. Remember to lock your doors in future.
This literally happens everywhere constantly but there us definitely an uptick in the summer months. |
