Do Seniors care about Senior Clapout

Do your seniors care about the Senior Clapout at the ES?

I get how it’s potentially inspirational for the ES kids, but do the seniors themselves really care or is it more something they tolerate?

Wait I’m confused. Seniors in high school clap out the 5th grades in elementary school?

No -- elementary schools invite their seniors to come back in cap & gown and be clapped out by the current elementary kids. I cannot fathom anyone doing this unless their parent is a teacher at the school.

I have never heard of this before.

Huh. I'm a longtime MCPS parent and have never heard of this.

I have never heard of this before, and I've been with MCPS since my graduating senior was in Kindergarten. But we got an invite this morning from his ES inviting him to come back for the clapout. I am sure different seniors react differently, but my son is quite excited to do it.

Never heard of it that way but my fifth grader was clapped out by the younger grades on graduation.

We’re in a different district but do this. The graduating kids love it because they get to get all nostalgic. The teachers at the various schools love it because they get to see former students. The elementary students love it because they get to see neighbors/babysitters/siblings.

Some high schools have their own clapout too

Is something they just started doing, my senior thinks it’s stupid. I have some friends who think it’s amazing.

We are in FCPS but the kids all go back to their feeder elementaries to do a parade in cap and gown. They love it and talk so fondly about seeing former teachers and their old buildings.

It’s hard in a transient area because a lot of kids didn’t go to one school for all of elementary or even attend at all in the district, but for the ones who did it’s a neat experience.

I agree with the senior. I think it’s manufactured sentiment/nostalgia for the seniors. The people who are actually nostalgic are possibly teachers and parents.

I could understand it at a K—12 school, but otherwise how many graduating seniors are even thinking about their ES days.

My DD missed the clapout in fifth grade because of a family event. She has since always reminded me that she wanted to go and didn't get the chance. So it is great that she will finally get to go back to her ES for a clapout now that she has finished HS.

Wait is that what the 5th grade clapout is? It is the 5th grade students congratulating the seniors? I thought it was what they called ES graduation.
