MCPS High School - 12th grade

My DD is slated to get a D in a class she does not need to graduate. Can you withdraw or ask that the grade not be reported at this late date (prior to graduation).

No.

Who cares? Is your child applying to a competitive college this late in the game?

Even if they got an A, what are your plans for next year that depend on the grade?

With 50%, a D today is basically an E. Be glad she's getting credit, let it go, enjoy the summer and move on.

The question you should ask her is why is she getting a D. She probably skipped classes and put in close to zero effort. Why did she do that?

Completely nuts, I know, but my class of 21 child got a D in a required class 4th Q of senior year. Senioritis had completely taken hold. The D, along with an A in 3rd Q, was a B for the semester, and with the A from first semester, was still an A for the year.

Like I said, completely nuts.

BTW, I think the D in that required class was a gift from a sympathetic, worn out teacher. Child probably should have failed and not graduated. And, that young adult is doing great in college - straight As through 4 semesters

The transcript would just show an A for the first semester and a B for the second semester. There is no grade "for the year" in MCPS.

MCPS courses are semester only. So your child had a B for the final course grade, not an A.

They would have both the A and the B, one final grade for each semester. They are not combined together.

Is your concern that her college will rescind the offer? Not sure if she can withdraw at this point, but if she does it will be marked on transcript that withdrew. They can also rescind for that since she reported that taking class when applied.

Pretty sure MP 3 A + MP 4 D is a C, not a B.

It's a B according to the grading and reporting regulation, chart on page 4
