Elementary School-Aged Kids
My 6 y.o. has only expanded slightly to eating more veggies. I was wondering at what age will they try new food more readily. I'm waiting patiently for my 4 yo to expand her horizons too. I've given up coaxing them to eat. I just say pick a green vegetable and that's what you'll have for dinner. So they picked cilantro. I've been presenting over 300 times other veggies like broccoli, spinach, green beans but no takers. I used to make them eat two bites of peas but there was too much stress involved with that.
Not what you want to hear, but I was one of those kids. Added salad and bell peppers in my 20's and began to eat green beans, snow peas, ans snap peas in my 30's. Still won't eat many other green veggies. . . .
Try planting a garden in your yard this summer and growing green veggies with your child's help. Eating what they grew is a great way to get 'em to eat veggies plan.
I'm the only veggie eater in my family of 5, or I was...I was pleasantly surprised to find my teenage stepdaughter eating a spinach salad and tangerines regularly since she began highschool. I have been on her case since she was 3, and gave up for awhile since she comes from a family of carnivores. She used to eat nothing but meat and starchy food! But apparently now it's cool to eat healthy....but I like to think that its all my years of coaxing her to eat something green. Now my two little ones, won't eat any veggies, only fruit. Hopefully one day after 10 more years of coaxing!
