Tutoring options for language arts

Anonymous
We are going to do Russian maths next year to supplement for MCPS math which is moving very slowly in ES. Our son is considered gifted in language arts too - can anyone recommend a tutoring option for language arts?

Our son is 2nd grade reading about a 6/7 grade level so we want to try our best to help engage their skills here.

Any tips appreciated.

I would try the AoPS ELA classes rather thn a tutor. You can do them in their virtual campus or in-person in Gaithersburg.

AOPS ELA classes involve a lot of use of computer assignments (like answering multiple choices online). Some parents like it. Some parents do not like it. Just FYI

OP here- we are really looking for non-computer based things. Kids get so much screen time already

Practice grammar, vocabulary, and logic.
- Wordly wise 3000
- Logic games and puzzles
- Sentence diagramming
- Phononems for Spelling
- Creative writing (Story cubes)

7 year old is in school all day plus more academic tutoring? Consider something like music or coding activities that are very enriching but not more school. He is already ahead.

Why can’t you do it?

I'd hire a tutor. We're happy with ours and has helped with writing. A teacher in the county would be a good idea. They will know the curriculum
