I don’t understand the appeal of quartz

I guess I get that it is a synthetic solid surface that is durable, but the designs are awful. Veining looks nothing like real stone. Is it supposed to look fake?

I’d never be able to tell the difference. It all looks like stone to me.

You should pick the look that appeals to you. Some models have obvious veining that looks fake. I did not choose one of those. I picked something that had some movement, but not lines. I like how durable and easy to clean it is. I chose Silestone Lagoon -- it's got some marble-like qualities to it, without obvious veining. I like it better than a stark white.

There are a lot of brands and styles -- what are you looking for?

There’s much nicer white quartz that doesn’t pretend to be marble.

I’d say the same thing about granite. I hate it with a passion. But silestone calacatta gold? Gorgeous.

I hate granite. I got Silestone without the ribboning which is what I don't like about granite.

So easy to take care of. Food safe, no sealing. Wipe own with water, no chemicals. Mine has some sparkles in it. I get compliments ALL the time. There are plenty that do not look fake but you gotta spend the $$.

It’s low maintenance, doesn’t stain, available in light colors / white.

Well, there is an easy way to avoid something that you don't like. Just move along and purchase something else. I don't get why people need to yuck someone else's yum all the time. I don't care about quartz one way or another, and I certainly don't care if others choose to use it.

I don’t mind it when it’s solid or has visible aggregate but I hate when it’s faux stone.

Are you the same person that keeps posting about "yucking someone else's yum"? Please stop, you sound like you spend all of your time with 4 year olds.

Yep, I hate mine with a passion. Will eventually replace with with a natural stone of some sort, but no time soon.

S/he has a valid point. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean everyone else has to think the same way. Clearly there’s a market for quartz or no one would be selling it.

+1 I love mine but so glad I didn't buy without looking through the slabs.

I didn't say the point wasn't valid, it's their overuse of a childish term. They must have recently picked it up somewhere because all of the sudden I'm seeing it in different DCUM forums. That was my only point!
